What it's about

Gate 8 sits at the Throat, the center of expression and manifestation. In the system, it stands for individual contribution: the ability to carry something of your own — or the work of others — out into the world and win attention for it. The I Ching hexagram "Holding Together" shows the social side of this energy: your personal style connects; it draws in people who feel inspired by it. Gate 8 is thus less the gate of creation itself than the gate of its presentation.

When the gate is activated

With Gate 8 activated, you have a fine sense for how to make the unusual visible — whether it's your own project or another person's talent. Many people experience themselves as a kind of gallerist: they recognize what deserves to be shown and create a stage for it. An example: in your circle of friends, someone has been quietly painting for years.
