What it's about

Gate 55 sits in the Solar Plexus, the emotional center, and in the system it is considered the gate of spirit in the sense of mood: it experiences life in waves — sometimes brimming full, sometimes empty. The I Ching hexagram is called “Abundance,” and that is exactly the point: abundance here is not a matter of circumstances but of inner state. The same glass can seem half full or half empty, depending on where the wave happens to be. Out of this depth of feeling often grows a special closeness to music, poetry, and everything that carries mood.

When the gate is activated

With an activated Gate 55, your moods are like weather: they come and go, often without any external cause. Many people experience it as liberating not to have to search for a reason — a melancholy phase is not a problem to be solved, but often a creative time. Important decisions are better not made at the peak or in the trough of a wave. If Gate 55 is activated without its partner gate 39, it counts as a hanging gate: people with Gate 39, the provocative Root energy, attract you — they tease out your emotional depth, as a complement, not a deficiency.

In everyday life

An example: on Tuesday you think your project is wonderful, on Thursday you doubt everything — even though nothing has changed. Instead of throwing it all away on Thursday, you write down your doubts and wait two days. Usually it then becomes clear: it was the wave, not the project. People around you learn not to take your moods personally, and in return they get something precious: someone who can experience moments in their full depth.
